STD Screening and Treatment Hours
Appointments for STD Screening and Treatment are available on Tuesdays from 11am-7pm and Thursdays from 9am-3pm. To schedule a Tuesday or Thursday appointment call (610)375-6523.
Walk-in/no appointment necessary STD screening and treatment services are available at our Reading office on Mondays only, beginning at 9am. Monday walk-in slots fill quickly. Monday patients are advised to arrive at 9am to obtain a number. When you receive your number you will be given an approximate time you can expect to be seen. You may then leave, if you prefer, returning at that approximate time for your screening.
Basics About
STD screening at publicly funded clinics includes testing for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and an optional HIV test. In addition, all patients are assessed for herpes, and genital warts (HPV); female patients are also assessed for vaginitis.
The syphilis test is an antibody test. This means that the test is looking for your immune system’s response to the presence of the syphilis bacteria. It takes time for a person’s immune system to develop a measurable antibody response to infection. This period of time varies from individual to individual, but may be as long as three months. If less than three months have passed since your last risk behavior, please talk with our clinician (or your personal health care provider) about your need for repeat testing.
The test for gonorrhea and chlamydia is an amplified DNA test. This means the test is actually looking for the bacteria (not an antibody to the bacteria). The amplified DNA test can detect the presence of bacteria within 24 hours of infection.
